July has been a pretty mellow month. I’ve been able to do a lot of relaxing, which was really nice after the hectic nature of the school year. I have been taking an online course so I haven’t done as much reading as I wanted, but I have managed to read quite a few books, which is nice nonetheless. I also got to read some fun books! I was so excited when I got my two five star reads this month. I also hauled some fun books that I’m really excited about. Below the cut you’ll find all of the books that I read and hauled in July.
Books hauled in July:
- It Girl by Ruth Ware
- Violet Made of Thorns by Gina Chen
- When Stars Come Out by Scarlett St. Clair
- Storm and Fury by Jennifer L. Armentrout
- Rage and Ruin by Jennifer L. Armentrout
- The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley
- The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han
- It’s Not Summer Without You by Jenny Han
- We’ll Always Have Summer by Jenny Han
- Rivals by Katharine McGee
Books I read in July:
1. Manga Classics: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Crystal S. Chen
Rating: 2 Stars
Format: eBook
Review: All of my stars for this one go the art style. I really liked the character design, and I liked how clear and visual the story was. However, I didn’t enjoy revisiting the story of Huck Finn. I recognize that it is a piece of its time, but it didn’t age well and I didn’t have fun reading it.
2. Don’t Let in the Cold by Keely Parrack

3. Black Panther: Tales of Wakanda by Various Authors
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: It took me a very long time to read this collection, but I am glad that I did. It was interesting to read about all the different characters. I liked a lot of the stories, though some of them were more interesting than others. That’s just the way short story collections are sometimes. I liked the different audiobook narrators.
4. It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: I’m glad that I finally read this. It was interesting to read about Lily’s character. She was well written and I liked watching her journey. I felt like she really grew a lot over the course of the story. I also really liked Atlas, and found him really interesting. He was kind and respectful. I think I will likely read the sequel to see what happens next.

7. Lore Olympus, Volume 2 by Rachel Smythe
Rating: 5 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: I love Lore Olympus. The ship between Persephone and Hades is one of my favourites. They have a really wonderful dynamic. The art style is gorgeous and the colours are beautiful. I really enjoyed the storyline covered in this particular novel. It was really fun to see their dynamic progress, and it made me want the next volume immediately.
8. Our Last Echoes by Kate Alice Marshall
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: I had fun reading this one. I didn’t really expect the supernatural aspects of the story, because at first it seemed to me that it as a standard mystery. The pacing was really good, and the writing was really descriptive. The novel felt really atmospheric and had a very spooky vibe. I liked the dynamics between the characters. It left me wanting a sequel.
9. Sisters by Raina Telgemeier
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: I enjoyed reading about the story of Raina and her sister as they were growing up. I liked how she structured flashbacks into the main storyline to see how things progressed through the story. I really like the art style that Raina has. It’s very nice and very colourful.
10. Guts by Raina Telgemeier
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: I really like how Raina Telgemeier structures her memoir graphic novels, and how they focus on one specific aspect of her life. This was interesting to see how her anxiety affected her life, and how she dealt with it. It was very relatable to read about her journey and to see how it progressed. It was easy to feel for her as you read the graphic novel.

21. The Perfect Stranger by Megan Miranda
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: physical copy
Review: This book took me a little while to get into, but I did end up enjoying it quite a bit. The main character was interesting to me as she tried to figure out what exactly happened to her roommate. Her tragic backstory that led her to move to the location of the main story was interesting, but it wasn’t necessarily what I had expected it to be. I thought it would be something different. There were some good twists that kept me guessing. I liked the romance that built.
22. British Professor by Lydia Michaels

23. Uglies by Scott Westerfeld
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: I’m glad I reread this book. It had been a while and it was fun to revisit the story and the characters. I didn’t love it as much as the first time I read it, probably because I have read a lot more since then and grown as a reader. I still had a lot of fun. I really enjoyed the sci-fi adventure of it all. I like Tally’s character development.

27. The It Girl by Ruth Ware
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: I really enjoyed this mystery. Ruth Ware is one of my favourite authors, and a total auto-buy author for me. This wa an interesting premise, and I really liked the back and forth of getting the past timeline and also the present. It wasn’t the most tense story of the ones I have read from her, but it definitely made up a lot of tension at the end of the story with the climax sequence. I liked Hannah as a main character. She was relatable and quite interesting to me. It made me want to keep reading to find out just what happened and I kept guessing with who it could have been that did it. It wasn’t my favourite of her mysteries, but I still had so much fun reading it.
