Ashley’s March 2023 Book Haul and Wrap Up

04.13.2023 by Ashley // Leave a Comment

March was a relatively good reading month.  I enjoyed most of the things that I read and I was able to catch up on at least a few of my eARCs, which felt really good.  I also got some really great books in and chipped away at reading them.  You can see everything I hauled and read below the cut.

Ashley’s February 2023 Book Haul and Wrap Up

03.16.2023 by Ashley // Leave a Comment

I had a pretty good February.  There were some moments were I was really struggling, but I would say that on the whole I had a good reading month.  I loved most of what I read, and I picked up some books that I was pretty excited about.  I ended up reading 25 books, which is pretty good all things considered.

Ashley’s January 2023 Book Haul and Wrap Up

03.15.2023 by Ashley // Leave a Comment

January was a pretty good month.  It was definitely a month with a lot of pre-orders so I got lots and lots of book mail, which was exciting.  I evern chipped away at reading some of those books, which was extra fun.  It was also a really good reading month.  My students were very helpful in encouraging me to read a book for each day of the month.  I didn’t quite succeed in that, but I read a lot, and I read a lot of very good things.  You’ll find what I’ve read below, along with the books hauled.

Ashley’s December 2022 Book Haul and Wrap Up

01.27.2023 by Ashley // Leave a Comment

December was also a busy month, and I think by this time I was feeling a little burnt out from the year.  My course was all wrapped up at the start of the month.  Then I celebrated my birthday and it was Christmas and my family was visiting.  I didn’t get as muhc reading done as I wanted but I read some good stuff anyways. Let’s just dive into it!

I will fully admit that I am incredibly behind on all of my blog stuff but I am here to finally catch up.  First on the docket is my November haul and wrap up.  November was a busy month for me because it was report card time and I was also taking a course which really took up a lot of my extra time.  So let’s just get into it.

Ashley’s October 2022 Haul and Wrap Up

11.17.2022 by Ashley // Leave a Comment

October was a really good reading month.  I read more than I thought I would get to, and the overall quality of the things that I read was really great.  I enjoyed reading some spooky things for October.  It felt very seasonally appropriate.  It was also an exciting month for book buying because I ended up doing a Book Outlet order and treated myself a little bit.

Ashley’s September 2022 Book Haul and Wrap Up

10.15.2022 by Ashley // Leave a Comment

September was a hectic month, but it always is when you consider that it’s back to school for me as a teacher.  However, I also was taking a course, which was wrapping up, and then I started another one, which overlapped with that first one.  It makes for a busy time of year.  Fortunately, I was still able to get some reading in.  I also picked up some books that I am very excited about.

Ashley’s August 2022 Haul and Wrap Up

09.10.2022 by Ashley // Leave a Comment

August wasn’t my best reading month.  I did read some interesting books, but I felt like I was in a bit of a reading slump for a good part of the month.  It couldn’t be helped.  I was also busy and had a lot of course work.  I did end up reading 20 books, and I hauled one.  You’ll find them below the cut.

Ashley’s July 2022 Haul and Wrap Up

07.31.2022 by Ashley // Leave a Comment

July has been a pretty mellow month.  I’ve been able to do a lot of relaxing, which was really nice after the hectic nature of the school year.  I have been taking an online course so I haven’t done as much reading as I wanted, but I have managed to read quite a few books, which is nice nonetheless.  I also got to read some fun books!  I was so excited when I got my two five star reads this month.  I also hauled some fun books that I’m really excited about.  Below the cut you’ll find all of the books that I read and hauled in July.

Ashley’s June Haul and Wrap Up – 2022

07.02.2022 by Ashley // Leave a Comment

June was a busy and hectic month.   I read a lot of things and did a lot of things.  Most of what I read were graphic novels, which are typically fast reads for me.  I lost track of my hauling of books in the last little while, so I’m just going to list all the books that I hauled in May and June below.

One of my favourite places to read is in the tub. I know it’s a little bit weird but there’s something really relaxing about shutting out the rest of the world and escaping into a book. It’s a small piece of perfection.
.
.
The Cartographers by Peng Shepherd was a book that I read for my staff book club. It was a fascinating read with wondrous elements of magical realism that felt marvellously woven into the narrative. I felt like I learned a lot about maps as well. The characters were interesting.

A: I feel like lately I’ve been really preoccupied with the number of books that I read per year as opposed to reading the long books that pile up on my shelves. I get scared by how big the book is and how it’s a much bigger time commitment. However, I often find that when I finally commit myself to the big book I end up loving it.

I found out about this book, Daughters of a Dead Empire, through #booktok and it was an instant buy for me when I figured out the plot. I loved the premise of what if Anastasia Romanov survived the execution of her family and how that might have played out. I loved this story! The dual points of view were really well done and I loved the story arc. It was well written and I highly recommend it.

What is one of your favorite Asian or Asian American books?

Happy #aapi month friends!

I was so thrilled when I received this book last year from @fairyloot. The fact that it had to do with Korean mythology made my heart soar! I love learning more about my heritage, especially because I was adopted. The older I’ve gotten, the more diaspora I’ve felt.

I know this version of Coldplay’s “Yellow” is in Chinese, but I couldn’t help but include it because I read how the director for Crazy Rich Asians fought for it to be in the movie and I honestly think the reasoning was awesome.

Some of my favorites by Asian American authors are:
• The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea by Axie Oh
• Portrait of the Thief by Grace D. Li
• The Dandelion Dynasty series by Ken Liu
• Crazy Rich Asians series by Kevin Kwan
• The Poppy War by RF Kuang

I know there’s still more I need to read!

Do you like horror? What about space horror?

I’m so excited to read this one! One of my favorite video games is Dead Space.

Thanks so much to @orbitbooks_us for sending an ARC my way!

Paradise-1. Earth’s first deep space colony. For thousands of people, it was an opportunity for a new life. Until it went dark.

No communication has been received from the colony for months. And it falls to Firewatch inspector Alexandra Petrova and the crew of the Artemis to investigate.

What they find is more horrifying than anything they could have imagined.

What is your favorite Star Wars movie or show? Otherwise, what is your favorite character from a space related book?

Happy #maythe4th!

I don’t know why, but I felt like sharing these awesome Shakespearean novelizations of the Star Wars saga. I love everything about them.

I’m SUPER excited for Ahsoka and for Visions s2. Also, I need more Bad Batch, like right now 😭😭😭
