I didn’t actually buy any books in June and I’m pretty proud of myself for that. However, I did order some books in May from Indigo and they came in this month. I also got my May OwlCrate box in and it was super exciting because it had a book AND a graphic novel.
Book Review | #bestiemademe | Spin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim
June’s book for the #bestiemademe challenge is Spin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim. Kari has also reviewed this book, and you can find that here. She absolutely loved it, and honestly, this is another recommendation that she knocked out of the park. I really, really had a good time reading this book and I ended up giving it 4 stars on Goodreads.
Shelfie Sunday | April’s OwlCrate Unboxing

Despite the fact that COVID-19 has thrown off OwlCrate’s usual schedule, I still really loved this box and everything that it had in it. I think that the theme (Full Moon Magic) was super fun and the items all really fit the theme. I just wanted to do a quick post to go over everything that came in the box, and my thoughts on the items. You’ll find that all below the cut.
Tag Tuesday | Ruler of Books
When I was little, I would play make believe, and every so often I would pretend to be royalty. I was always fascinated by the concept. However, I didn’t just pretend to be a princess. I also remember a time when my cousin, my little brother, and I pretended to be former Prime Ministers of Canada at the behest of my cousin who has always been interested in politics. In today’s Tag Tuesday, we are going to pretend that I am the ruler of books. You’ll find my answers below the cut.
Misc Monday | Six Month 28th Year Reading Update
My half birthday is on Wednesday so I thought we were about due for an update on the books I was planning on reading this year. I haven’t done as well with this as I was hoping to, but at least there are still another six months until my birthday to attempt to finish it all up.
Ashley’s June TBR
I’m so excited about June because Kari and I are hosting another round of The Loyal Book-a-Thon. I really have a lot of fun planning these readathons with her, and I always have a lot of fun reading for them. We try to keep them flexible and allow for doubling up of prompts and maximum flexibility. People always have things going on and we don’t want it to be overwhelming. I know for me that I will probably have less reading time than usual because as of today, I’ll have to start going back to work and being in the building part time during the week. I’m excited to see my students, but it does mean less listening to audiobooks as I work through the day.
Misc Monday | June Anticipated Reads
June marks us being pretty much halfway through the year, and boy has it been a weird one. However, there are still books coming out and books that I’m definitely interested in. So below the cut you will find the June releases I’m most interested in.
Ashley’s May Wrap Up
May marked another month of me working from home, so it meant that I listened to a lot of audiobooks again. However, I also got to read some physical books, and I checked some of the beefier reads off my TBR. Overall, it was a really good reading month and I felt like I really enjoyed a lot of the things that I read. Everything that I read can be found below the cut!
Ashley’s May Book Haul
May was another weird month, but I think that all of the months will be weird until this whole pandemic ends. I ended up succumbing to my book buying urges this month and picked up an order from Book Outlet because they had some crazy sales going on. I also picked up a couple of other books. You’ll find them below the cut.
The Loyal Book-A-Thon | Summer Edition
Hello friends! Kari and I were feeling inspired and in need of reading inspiration and are planning our next edition of The Loyal Book-A-Thon readathon in June. As summer starts in June, we decided to do one with prompts inspired by summer, which is arguably one of the best seasons in the year.
