two friends and too many books
I’m so excited about my summer vacation even though I’m not necessarily doing all that much this summer. I do, however, plan on getting a lot of reading done this summer though and try to keep myself entertained. I’m looking forward to all my summer reads. So what am I reading in July? The Summer I Drowned by Taylor Hale is a young adult mystery thriller. It is about a teenage girl named Olivia who is attempting to deal with her post-traumatic stress disorder from when she nearly drowned as a young teen. Five years later she has returned to the place where it all happens. I gave The Summer I Drowned three stars on GoodReads. The Summer I Drowned releases on July 7th.
This was a crazy reading month for me. I felt really slumpy back in March and then had to transition into working from home. I expected that I wouldn’t really get a lot of reading done this month despite participating in both the OWLs Magical Readathon and our Loyal Book-a-Thon. I figured I’d read those, and that would be about it. However, I ended up getting through a lot of books and finished off both readathons pretty early in the month. Working from home meant that I could listen to audiobooks while working, and it’s made me a lot more efficient reader. So I’m pretty proud of the fact that in April I read 34 books/novellas. We Are the Wildcats by Siobhan Vivian is a young adult contemporary novel about a high school girl’s field hockey team. It is multi point of view and you get the perspectives of a variety of girls on the varsity team at West Essex high school. We Are the Wildcats publishes on March 31st. I rated it 5 stars on Goodreads.

You Are Not Alone by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen is an adult mystery/thriller set in New York City. The events in the book center around the protagonist, Shay Miller, who is a data analyst unsatisfied with her lot in life and who gets caught up in a mystery. I gave this book 4 stars on Goodreads. It publishes on March 3rd, 2020.

Foul is Fair by Hannah Capin is a Macbeth retelling as a YA contemporary novel. All the characters from the iconic Shakespearean tragedy have been translated into well off high school students in sunny California. I gave this book 5 stars on Goodreads.
It’s a Leap Year this year! It’s so weird to have this one little bonus day, and I’m kind of excited because it’s one more day of reading for me. I have a nice variety of books I’m planning on picking up this month. You’ll find them below the cut.
I love the feeling of a fresh year of reading. There’s always so much anticipation when it comes to the new books I’ll pick up or even the old books that I’ll revisit.
I’m off to a good start when I comes to reading this year. In January I read 21 books, of a variety of qualities. One was pretty low in the rating departments, but one will be one of my favourites of the year.

Followers by Megan Angelo is a Sci-Fi/contemporary story about the downsides of fame and technology. It takes place in two different timelines, with two main points of view, but eventually those timelines collide. I gave it four stars on Goodreads.

What initially drew me to this book was the title and cover. Once I read the summary, the historical fiction aspect drew me in, especially since takes place during the Crusades which is a time period you just don’t see much of in young adult fiction.
