August was off to a really good start for reading! I read a lot of really, really good reads and I’m very glad about it. Ultimately, I ended up reading 18 books this month. Let’s just jump into it. You’ll find it all below the cut.
The books I hauled in August were:
- This Poison Heart by Kalynn Bayron
- The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
- A Quick and Easy Guide to They/Them Pronouns by Archie Bongiovanni and Tristan Jimerson
Now let’s get into the books I read in August:
1. The Hideaway by Pam Smy
Rating: 5 stars
Format: eBook
Review: There will be a full review of this up on the blog closer to its September publication date.
2. Admission by Julie Buxbaum
Rating: 5 stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: This was a really interesting book. I found the story really compelling because it was based on the college admission scandal and I found that case really fascinating. It was interesting to see it from the perspective of a student whose parents got her into the school of her dreams. It felt really awful to read from her perspective and to see her doubt herself. It was also good for her to see her to check her privilege and to grow from the experience.
3. Little Monsters by Kara Thomas
Rating: 5 stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: I loved this book! It was twisty and twisted. It was a really interesting premise and I found that I needed to read it really quickly. I loved the mystery and trying to figure out who had done it. I was also really interested in the complicated family dynamics. Honestly, everything about this book worked for me. I was really, really into it.
4. I Am Margaret Moore by Hannah Capin
Rating: 5 stars
Format: eBook
Review: There will be a full review of this up on the blog closer to its March 2022 publication date.
5. These Are My Words by Ruby Slipperjack
Rating: 4 stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: This is part of the Dear Canada series. It was really well written and very interesting to read about. It’s a horrifying part of Canadian history and it’s important that it isn’t erased or forgotten. That’s why it’s important to read books about the subject. This one didn’t necessarily talk about some of the more horrible things that happened at the schools but it didn’t shy away from other harder subjects.
6. The Wedding Party by Jasmine Guillory
Rating: 4 stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: I liked this one a lot. It was fun to read the sort of enemies to lovers kind of romance that it was, though obviously it’s not as extreme as some of the fantasy enemies to lovers. It was well written and I really liked both Theo and Maddy as characters. They were well written and the story was really interesting to me. I have been enjoying this series.
7. The Taking of Jake Livingston by Ryan Douglass
Rating: 4 stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: This was such an interesting novel. The pacing was really good and I enjoyed the spooky atmosphere. Jake was a really interesting character. He was well developed, and I enjoyed reading about his journey. The world of ghosts as depicted in this story was really interesting to me. A lot happened in such a little book, and I highly recommend it.
8. Grown by Tiffany D. Jackson
Rating: 4 stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: This book was really gritty and disturbing, and I found it fascinating. It was simultaneously a hard one to put down and a hard one to continue to read because of the subject matter, but it was really good to read. If you haven’t yet read it, you should, but I would suggest checking out the trigger warnings first.
9. Astra by Cedar Bowers

10. So Much For Love by Sophie Lambda

12. The Shadows Between Us by Tricia Levenseller
Rating: 4 stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: This was a really twisty story, but I had a lot of fun listening to it. The world building was interesting and I liked the elements of fantasy mixed with science. Alessandra was an interesting character, and I liked watching as the romance developed between her and Kallias. It was definitely a fun read.
13. Manga Classics: The Count of Monte Cristo by Stacy King
Rating: 4 stars
Format: eBook

14. A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas
Rating: 5 stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: I had a lot of fun with this book. I didn’t always like Nesta as a character, but I really liked getting her perspective and learning more about her and why she acts the way she does. It was also really interesting to get Cassian’s point of view. They were very cute together. It’s just a really fun read and I highly recommend the book.
15. Manga Classics: Romeo and Juliet by Stacy King

18. Covet by Tracy Wolff
Rating: 4 stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: This book took me a really long time to get into. I just had a weird block. However, I ended up listening to it on audiobook and I really, really loved it. It’s got a good amount of action and excitement. I love the characters and how much the series has morphed from the first book which I will admit was a bit cringy. It’s a huge book but it’s super fast paced, which I love.
And that’s everything I read in August! What did you read this past month?
