June didn’t have a good feeling reading month wise for me. I read a good amount of books, but I just felt a lot less productive reading wise than I usually do. It was also end of the school year wrap up time so that added a bit of stress to the plate and made it so I had less time to read than usual. There was a lot that piled up this month on my to do list.
Here’s everything I hauled in June:
- Nobody Does It Better by Cecily von Ziegesar
- All I Want is Everything by Cecily von Ziegesar

Here’s everything I read in June:
1. Punching the Air by Ibi Zoboi and Yusef Salaam
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: I always love a good novel in verse, and this was no exception. I liked the collaboration between Ibi Zoboi and Yusef Salaam. It made the story feel more personal and interesting. I liked the arc of the story, and how you get to know about what happened to the main character. I highly recommend this story.
2. Tex by S.E. Hinton
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: This was really interesting. I hadn’t really read much other than The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton and while I didn’t like this as much as I love The Outsiders, I enjoyed it a lot more than Rumble Fish. There was a lot more character development and I really found Tex interesting as a character.
3. The Halloween Tree by Ray Bradbury
Rating: 3 Stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: This was interesting, but it wasn’t my favourite. I liked the characters and also the basic storyline, but I just didn’t love it. I’m glad that I listened to it, but it’s not something that I would revisit.
4. The Magic Barrel by Bernard Malamud
Rating: 3 Stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: I liked this reading of the short story. It was interesting, and I appreciated that it was a quick read. However, there was a part of me that wanted more out of it. It wasn’t my favourite thing that I read. However, it’s definitely worth checking out.
5. Elizabeth I: The Red Rose of the House of Tudor by Kathryn Lasky
Rating: 5 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: This was a reread for me, and I’m glad that I did. I absolutely love these books because they were what made me really love history. I found them very intriguing and this one was one of my first loves. I love the characterization and also the snap shot of the world at the time. They’re quite a young read but I really liked it.
6. Alive by Scott Sigler
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: The audiobook of this was really good. It was a full cast which really helped to bring the story alive. I loved the different voices. The story was well written and kept me intrigued as it progressed, I wanted to know what was going to happen, and there was a lot of good suspense. I definitely think I will continue to read the series.
7. What Makes Us by Rafi Mittlefehldt
Rating: 4 Stars

Review: This was a heartbreaking story to read. I enjoyed it, and really liked the main character. The different points of view kept me engaged and interested. It was a really interesting character study.
8. Extinction by Hannie Rayson
Rating: 3 Stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: I liked the audiobook of this because it’s always nice when you get all different voices. However, it’s not my favourite story that I’ve read. It has an interesting message, and I liked how messy the drama of it was.
9. The Conference of the Birds by Ransom Riggs
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: This was an interesting continuation. I still don’t think the second trilogy was strictly necessary, but I did really enjoy the different characters we’ve met and I really am starting to enjoy the overall story line. I’m looking forward to seeing how the series concludes.

15. The Betrothed by Keira Cass
Rating: 3 Stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: I was really excited for this book because I loved the Selection series. However, it definitely wasn’t as good as that series. It was an interesting story and I think I’ll continue on with the series, but I was just not the biggest fan. It had some interesting enough twists though.

Review: This was such a twisty book. I had no idea what was happening but not in a this is so confusing way, more in a way of I didn’t know who had actually done it and it really kept me guessing. I found it fascinating, and I liked the different narrators. It was a good audiobook. I liked the way that the story was laid out.
19. Sasha Masha by Agnes Borinsky

Review: This was a really interesting mystery. I liked the different points of view because it was really kept me wondering what was happening and who it had happened to. I liked that it wasn’t revealed who the victim was until near the end of the book. It made for a different kind of read. I definitely recommend it.

Rating: 4 Stars
Format: eBook
Review: There will be a full review of this up on the blog soon.
22. White Rose by Kip Wilson
Rating: 4 stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: I really enjoyed this book. It really brought an interesting perspective on the second world war that’s not something that I normally read about. I liked learning about the resistance that happened and how people fought back. I liked the novel in verse format because it was just the pacing that I needed right now. I loved the main character. She was such a strong person.
23. The Iliad by Gareth Hinds
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: I have been on a bit of a Greek Mythology kick. I really enjoyed the art style and the way he translated the story to a graphic novel format. The general arc was included with lots of good details, but it was pared down to the finer points of the story. It’s an easily accessible way of reading the story.
