I had an amazing reading year in 2020. I read way more books than I expected I would read and more than I probably will ever read in a year again. It was a messy year, but I read a lot of books which is pretty great. This is going to be a quick overview of my favourite books that I read this year. It is also going to be a few more than the top 5, so I’m sorry about that.
These books are going to be listed in no particular order.

4. Cracked Up to Be by Courtney Summers
This book was SO GOOD. I absolutely loved Parker and her story had me enthralled from page one. I read it in one setting because I couldn’t put it down and just needed to know what was going to happen. I bawled my eyes out at one point, and really wanted to give her a hug even though she definitely wouldn’t have accepted it. If you haven’t read this book yet, you have to!
5. A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer

9. American Royals by Katharine McGee

10. Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman
This book was amazing. I was hooked from start to finish. You need to read this series!
11. The Toll by Neal Shusterman
This book was chock full of information and it makes me really glad I listened to it on audiobook. It made it feel a little less info-dumpy. I loved the story and the additions to worldbuilding. I liked getting all the different perspectives and how it both picked up right after the ending of the last book and didn’t pick up right after it. I love the characters.
12. Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare
I love the shadowhunter universe and this was a great addition. It definitely had a bit of a slow start to the novel, but I was invested because I loved the characters from the glimpses I got in various previous novellas that were released. I liked how they interacted with each other and how there was a nice diversity. I’m all about stories about groups of friends and the group in this one was really good. Once the adventure got underway, this book was really hard to put down. I really loved the ending and can’t wait until the next one.
13. The Shadowglass by Rin Chupeco
I loved this book. It was the perfect conclusion to the series and I devoured it. I really had no idea how Rin Chupeco was going to bring the story around to its conclusion after all that build up. I loved the way that the story grew and grew, and how the pay off was so worth it. I loved the characters and the world. Rin Chupeco made a masterpiece to be honest.
14. Be Not Far From Me by Mindy McGinnis
I really loved this book. I got it on audio from Scribd and I listened to it in one sitting pretty much while working from home. It was super read hearing about a girl named Ashley in a book, but I really enjoyed her as a character. I liked the story, though it was quite gruesome in places as well. I highly recommend it.
15. The Hand on the Wall by Maureen Johnson
I just love this series so much and this was absolutely a perfect conclusion to it. I highly recommend. Please read it ASAP.
16. Go With the Flow by Lily Williams
This was such an amazing graphic novel. It’s all about periods which is a topic that isn’t discussed enough. I felt the topic was handled quite well. I loved the art style, and the strong focus on female friendships. The kids were so sweet together, and I liked watching them grow and learn about each other. I can’t recommend this enough. It is beautifully done.
