October is not the traditional month to go crazy when buying things, but it is a month where I start to get more into the swing of the school year. Things get super busy and hectic and I get more stressed. In order to combat that stress, I tend to want to treat myself. I know that’s not sure healthy, but it did help make me feel a little better. That being said, I picked up a few cool books this month. You’ll find them below the cut!
Book Review | The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell
**Disclaimer: I received an advanced reader’s copy of The Family Upstairs from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell is an adult mystery thriller set in London. It is about a young woman named Libby who comes into an unexpected inheritance and an unexpected family history. The book is set to be published on November 5th. I gave it five stars on Goodreads.
Tag Tuesday | #booksanddisneyvillains
Disney was such a formative thing for me as a kid. I used to watch the movies all the time, and my mom tells me that my favourite when I was really little was 101 Dalmatians. I’d ask her over and over to watch ‘Dogs’. However, I was never super into the villains. When I got older, I got a bit more of an understanding of the character and when I watch the movies now, I understand the depth of their characterization. I’m still not much of a villain lover today, but they’re really interesting.
Ashley’s October TBR
October is here! I can’t believe we’re already here. This year has gone so quickly. I have to admit that I’m really excited about October. I’m not as obsessed as some people, but I really do find myself enjoying the spooky vibes that come along with the month. I love Halloween, and scary movies, so I’m definitely going to take some time to enjoy myself this month. That being said I am hoping to pick up some spooky reads this month. My reading plans are below the cut.
Ashley’s September Haul
September was such a light month for me when it comes to hauling books. There were a bunch of books that I wanted to buy but I did my best to restrain myself and I only let myself purchase two outside of my subscription boxes that I got. I haven’t been doing very well on my resolution of not buying as many books this year, but I’m doing way better than I did last year, so that’s a definitely a plus. Without further ado, let’s jump into what I got. You’ll find it under the cut.
Book Review: Aphrodite Made Me Do It by Trista Mateer
**Disclaimer: I received a free advanced reader copy of Aphrodite Made Me Do It by Trista Mateer from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to them for this opportunity.
Aphrodite Made Me Do It by Trista Mateer is a short poetry collection taking on the dual points of view of Aphrodite and the poet herself. It releases on October 1st. I gave it 4.5/5 stars, which I had to put down as a 4 on Goodreads.
Book Tag | Three Bookish Things
Three has never been my favourite number. However, it’s a good number for a tag full of bookish things I like and love. Below the cut you will find some of my top three bookish things!
Tag Tuesday | Backpack Reads
Back to school season is upon us, and I’ve been back to work for a week now. What’s more relevant to back to school than a tag that has to do with backpacks? Though looking at the questions, I had to admit I’m not sure what they have to do with backpacks. Oh well, let’s just get into the questions.
Ashley’s August Haul
Another month, another haul. Somehow I keep acquiring books, but I was really good about buying books this month. I only got three new books, and two were very kindly sent to me by publishers. While I haven’t read any of them yet, I am very excited about all of them. Check them out below the cut!
