I had a pretty good reading month in March. I’m really satisfied with the things that I read, though I do wish that I had been able to read even more since I was off for spring break. I had wanted to do a 24 hour readathon on my own, but I never got around to it. Things just got a bit too busy. Oh well. Let’s jump into everything I hauled and read in March!
Books I hauled in March:
- The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
- Verity by Colleen Hoover
- The Initial Insult by Mindy McGinnis
- Daughters of a Dead Empire by Carolyn Tara O’Neil
- Only a Monster by Vanessa Len
- Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
- It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover
- I am Margaret Moore by Hannah Capin
- The Last Laugh by Mindy McGinnis
- Forgery of Roses by Jessica S. Olson
Books I read in March:
1. The Dire Days of Willowweep Manor by Shaenon K. Garrity and Christopher J. Baldwin
Rating: 5 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: I really loved this graphic novel. The art style was really cute and I felt that it really suited the story that was being told. I also really liked the way that the story progressed. It was a great story line and I loved how the protagonist had to use her knowledge of tropes in order to actually fix the problems that were arising in the story. It was really well done, and I highly recommend it.
2. Mister Impossible by Maggie Stiefvater
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: This was an interesting enough continuation of the series and I had fun while reading it. I still like seeing the characters from The Raven Cycle, but I honestly found it rather hard to motivate myself to read it. I really had to push myself to pick up the audiobook because I just wasn’t super into it at first. However, it got a lot more interesting further into the book.
3. Hamlet by William Shakespeare
Rating: 5 Stars
Format: Physical Copy/Audiobook
Review: I read this with my English 12 block and I had a lot of fun reading it. I don’t have any new comments to make about it.
4. Daughters of a Dead Empire by Carolyn Tara O’Neil
Rating: 5 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: I picked this book up on a whim after seeing it in a TikTok video and I absolutely loved it. It hit this perfect niche in my interests and really had me invested in the storyline. I loved that it was dual point of view and that each girl had a very different perspective on the world going into things. It was really well paced and I think it offered a compelling theory of what it might have been like if Anastasia had survived the execution of her family. I highly recommend it.
5. If This Gets Out by Cale Dietrich and Sophie Gonzales
Rating: 5 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: I really enjoyed this book. I loved the romance that developed between our two main characters and watching it grow and watching them adapt to things and learn about themselves. I also liked the statement it made about fame and the pressures that come with it, and how it’s important to be true to yourself. It’s very well written, and I highly recommend that you check it out.
6. The Tudors: The Complete Story of England’s Most Notorious Dynasty by G.J. Meyer
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: This was a really interesting non-fiction. I love the Tudors era and so it was really interesting to listen to this audiobook that covered a lot of their history. It was definitely quite skewed towards King Henry VIII, but I did find him a rather interesting figure, so that worked for me.
7. Love, Creekwood by Becky Albertalli
Rating: 3 Stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: This would probably have been more effective if I had read Leah on the Offbeat, however; I still had fun reading this book and I really enjoyed the story that it was trying to tell. It was written in a cute way and it was nice to revisit the characters.
8. Angels in America by Tony Kushner
Rating: 3 Stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: I read this for the first time in university and thought it would be interesting to re-read it as an adult. I loved listening to the audiobook because each of the characters was voiced by a different actor which really brought the story to life. However, I will say that it was a pretty weird story and it’s not my favourite play that I’ve ever read. However, I do appreciate that it had a message.
9. Once Bitten by Trina M. Lee
Rating: 2 Stars
Format: eBook
Review: When I picked this up, I was in the mood for a supernatural romance, and that definitely filled that niche. However, it’s probably the worst book I’ve read so far this year. I didn’t think it was super well written and I didn’t really love the love triangle/reverse harem of it. I also found the main protagonist kind of annoying, so I do not think I will be continuing on with this series. It just wasn’t for me.
10. The Companion by Katie Alender
Rating: 5 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: This book was fantastic. I really enjoyed the pacing of it and how the tension slowly built. You really feel for the protagonist in her situation so you really want things to work out well for her. I liked how the characters and also how the mystery developed and how she slowly realized something was wrong with this situation. I found it really well written and I appreciated that it had a solid conclusion.

16. Truthwitch by Susan Dennard
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: This was a re-read for me, but I did really enjoy revisiting the world and the characters. I genuinely think that this is up there with my favourite fantasy series of all times. The world is really cool and I really enjoyed how it was written. If you haven’t yet checked it out, I highly recommend that you do.
17. But I Live: Three Stories of Child Survivors of the Holocaust by Miriam Libicki
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: eBook
Review: This is a NetGalley eARC, so there will be a full review up on the blog closer to it’s publication date.
18. House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas
Rating: 5 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: I am obsessed with this series. I genuinely can’t remember the last time a fantasy book made me cry so much in the ending. I love the characters and I love the world. I also like all the different kinds of fantasy creatures there are. There’s a lot of good tension in this story, and I found the investigating a mystery aspect quite compelling.
19. In the Shadow of the Throne by Kate Sheridan
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: eBook
Review: This is a NetGalley eARC, so there will be a full review up on the blog closer to it’s publication date.
20. The Guest List by Lucy Foley
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: This was a really interesting mystery. I really like the way Lucy Foley structures her stories so that you don’t know who is the victim until near the end. It really helps to build the tension. I also like how we get multiple points of view. It leaves you with a lot of guessing.
21. House of Sky and Breath by Sarah J. Maas
Rating: 5 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: I love this continuation of the series. I probably didn’t love it as much as I loved the first book, but I am very glad that I read it. It was really well written and I loved getting to see more of the world. The world building is pretty excellent in my opinion and I think it would be a really fun world for a roleplaying game. I liked the continuation of Bryce and Hunt’s love story, and how there seemed to be a lot of greater intrigue afoot. I am already in desperate need of the second one.
So that’s everything that I read and hauled. What did you read?
