I don’t know what it is about me, but it seems like lately I have developed a fear of finishing series. I want to finish these series because I have loved them so so much, but I get scared when it comes to the ending and put off reading it even though the books grace my shelves with their presence. I’ve decided in November that I am going to try and make myself wrap up some series I’ve been procrastinating on!
Ashley’s October Book Haul
October is not the traditional month to go crazy when buying things, but it is a month where I start to get more into the swing of the school year. Things get super busy and hectic and I get more stressed. In order to combat that stress, I tend to want to treat myself. I know that’s not sure healthy, but it did help make me feel a little better. That being said, I picked up a few cool books this month. You’ll find them below the cut!
Book Review | The Grey Sisters by Jo Treggiari
**Disclaimer: I received an electronic advanced readers copy of The Grey Sisters by Jo Treggiari from Penguin Random House Canada through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thanks to the publishers for this opportunity.
The Grey Sisters by Jo Treggiari is a multiple point of view YA fiction novel that’s a bit of thriller/mystery. It releases on September 24th, 2019. I gave it 3 stars on GoodReads.
Book Review | American Royals by Katharine McGee
***Disclaimer: I received a free early access copy of American Royals by Katharine McGee from NetGalley through Random House Children’s for review purposes. Thank you so much for opportunity.
I really love a good drama. Is it a guilty pleasure? Maybe, but I definitely don’t feel guilty about it so it shouldn’t be classified as such.
Shows like Gossip Girl and Dynasty always hook me in. Rich people and their intricate problems! But they’re just like everyone else, right?
I’m a fan of The Thousandth Floor, so when I heard Katharine McGee was coming out with this, I knew I had to read it.
Ashley’s September TBR
August was just such a rigorous reading month that I’m going to slacken the reins a bit with my September TBR. I’m not participating in any readathons, so my expectations for myself will be less limiting and I can read whatever I want. That being said, I do have some books I want to get to and you will find them below the cut!
Ashley’s July Wrap Up
July was a crazy busy month for me! It was my first month of summer vacation and I had a bunch of stuff on the go: a garage sale, a wedding, camping, and helping my parents move! However, in between and around all those things I was able to get a bunch of reading done. I read 26 books in July. You can find my Wrap Up and brief reviews under the cut.
Book Review | Spin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim
***Disclaimer: I received a free early access copy of Spin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim from NetGalley through Random House Children’s/Knopf Books for review purposes. Thank you so much for opportunity.
Not sure what else the appropriate response for the tagline of ‘Project Runway meets Mulan‘ is other than YES PLEASE!
Book Review | In the Woods by Carrie Jones and Stephen E. Wedel
**Disclaimer: I received a free advanced readers copy of In the Woods by Carrie Jones and Stephen E. Wedel for review purposes through NetGalley and Macmillan-Tor/Forge. Thank you to them for this opportunity.
In the Woods by Carrie Jones and Stephen E. Wedel is a young adult horror novel that releases on July 16th. I gave it three stars on GoodReads.
Ashley’s May Haul
I am a bit embarrassed about how big my May haul is. I promise that I didn’t really do all that much book shopping this month except for one or two things, but so many things that I had ordered in previous month came in and so it makes it look like I went absolutely crazy with my shopping. So I guess, technically, I did go crazy in the past months. Just know that I was actually pretty reasonable this month, it’s just that all of my previous crazy ended up coming to my mail box in various shipments this month. Pretend that I’ve inserted the See No Evil Monkey emoji here, because I’m definitely a little bit embarrassed.
Review | Romanov by Nadine Brandes
***Disclaimer: I received a free early access copy of Romanov by Nadine Brandes from NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for review purposes. Thank you so much for opportunity.
I was so excited about Fawkes that you should’ve seen my face when I learned Romanov was going to exist! The Romanovs were such an interesting family and all of the mysterious circumstances that surrounded their true disappearance. The speculation of Anastasia living, the rise of Leninism ,and just the general misfortune upon them is so interesting and heartbreaking.
