I love the name of this tag, because in my mind books go perfectly with bubbles. Reading has always been one of my primary forms of self-care, and one of my favourite things to do is to read in the bath. And obviously, baths are made better with bubbles. Let’s get into the questions below the cut!
Book that never makes you feel alone:
- A series of books that never makes me feel alone is the series set in the Tortall Universe by Tamora Pierce. They are books I started reading when I was a pre-teen, and they are books I have been rereading ever since. They are so wonderfully well-written, and the characters feel like old friends welcoming me home every time i open one of the books. Alanna, Daine, Kel, and Ali are so familiar, and their stories are so comforting.
Book that reminds you of your childhood:
- I think the books that most remind me of my childhood are the Nancy Drew books, especially the classic ones with the yellow hardback. When I was in elementary school, I would go to the library in my school every week and I would sign out two of Nancy’s mysteries. I have distinct memories of reading them under my desk during class when I should have been paying attention. I also have a distinct memory of being devastated when I found out that Carolyn Keene wasn’t a real person.
Book that makes you daydream:
- A book that makes me daydream is the Lore Olympus series by Rachel Smythe. The way she has envisioned the world of the Gods from Greek mythology is so beautiful. I love the juxtaposition of the mortal world versus the world of Olympus, and it’s very easy to imagine what life might be like if I lived in one of those two worlds. I like to pretend sometimes that I’m tagging along or hiding in the background of those stories.
Book you would change the ending of:
- I don’t typically want to change the ending of the books I have read, because I don’t like to pretend that I’m better than the authors that wrote the book. I will say that I do wish that the ending of Ana Maria and the Fox by Liana de la Rosa was a bit further developed. I felt like the ending was a bit rushed, and some of the conflict was resolved too quickly. I would have liked more pages so that we could have gotten to see more of the tension and see more of how everything was resolved. This is just a bit nitpicky of me, but I did on the whole really enjoy the story. I just wanted more.
Character you’d like to bring back to life:
- If I could bring back any character, I think I would like to bring back Nehemia from the Throne of Glass series. I understand the circumstances in which she died, and how her death served as a motivator for Celaena, but I just wanted more for her. She deserved to live and do more with her life. She was an amazing character.
