I spend so much time talking about books that sometimes it’s really nice to switch up what I talk about on this blog. So today, we’re going to talk about some things that I love/like that aren’t books!
Writing Wednesday | A Retelling of a Fairy Tale
Retellings as a genre is something that is a more recent love in my life. However, when I wrote this prompt, I hadn’t really read very many of these. That being said, I thought it was a pretty genius to write my own retelling as the prompt was ‘A Retelling of a Fairy Tale’, and I fairly quickly decided to do my own version of Red Riding Hood.
The story is below the cut.
Tag Tuesday | I Have Never…
One of my favourite games to play is Never Have I Ever, so this is a super fun tag for me to do today. Normally, I’m not very good at it, as there are lot of things I have never done, but I’m thinking that I will have a better rate of have done when it comes to book. Let’s find out below the cut!
Book Review | The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware
**Disclaimer: I received an advance reader’s copy of The Turn of the Key through NetGalley from Simon & Schuster Canada in exchange for an honest review.
The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware is a mystery-thriller set in Scotland. It is written in a semi epistolary way, which was rather unique. The book releases on August 6th, 2019. I gave it 5 stars on GoodReads.
Ashley’s August TBR | NEWTs Readathon
I am so excited for August because I’m participating in the NEWTs readathon, which is a continuation of the magical readathon. So, this month’s TBR is dedicated to completing that so that I can try and pursue my chosen magical career which is: auror! I asked for help deciding on my bookstagram and the vote was really close and that’s what I’m going for! I will be prioritizing the NEWTs needed to become an auror. However, I am a bit of a glutton for punishment so I think I’m going to set a tentative TBR for the rest of the prompts and challenge myself to see how much I can get read in August. Keep in mind that this is all pretty flexible depending on what I can and can’t get. You’ll find my TBR below the cut.
Ashley’s July Wrap Up
July was a crazy busy month for me! It was my first month of summer vacation and I had a bunch of stuff on the go: a garage sale, a wedding, camping, and helping my parents move! However, in between and around all those things I was able to get a bunch of reading done. I read 26 books in July. You can find my Wrap Up and brief reviews under the cut.
Ashley’s July Haul
This was a month of bargains! I found myself called by the siren that is Book Outlet! I love this site so much because you can get some really good books for low prices. I picked up a whole bunch of books from there, plus my Owl Crate, and most recently a trip to Indigo to pick up some sequels. You can find my haul under the cut.
Book Review | I’m Not Dying With You Tonight by Gilly Segal and Kimberly Jones
**Disclaimer: I received an advance reader copy of I’m Not Dying With You Tonight by Gilly Segal and Kimberly Jones from SOURCEBOOKS Fire and NetGalley for review purposes. Thank you to them for this opportunity.
I’m Not Dying With You Tonight by Gilly Segal and Kimberly Jones is a hard hitting YA Contemporary novel that hits the shelves on August 6th, 2019. I gave it 4/5 stars on GoodReads, but my actual rating is probably a 4.5/5.
Writing Wednesday | A Story About Rising to a Challenge
This week’s story’s prompt is ‘A Story About Rising to a Challenge.’ The story is below the cut.
Tag Tuesday | Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag
I can’t believe the year is over halfway over already. Time seems to fly so much faster as you get older, and I’m not really sure how that works. It doesn’t seem particularly fair to me. However, I thought it would be fun to do this book tag. I’ve seen it circulating on BookTube, and I thought I would maybe do it, but I cemented that idea when I saw people on bookstagram doing it. So below the cut you will find my answers to the Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag.
