April was a pretty good month. I didn’t read nearly as much as the previous month, but when you don’t have two weeks off, that doesn’t matter too much. I had some great reads and god some great books in. Let’s dive into it below the cut.
Books I hauled in April:
- How to End a Love Story by Yulin Kuang
- The Reappearance of Rachel Price by Holly Jackson
- Everytime You Hear That Song by Jenna Voris
- Against the Darkness by Kendare Blake
- The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo
- Hamlet
- Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone by Benjamin Stevenson
- A Study in Drowning by Ava Reid
Books I read in April:
1. Suddenly a Murder by Lauren Munoz
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: I really enjoyed the structure of this book. Izzy had an interesting point of view, so I enjoyed that it was mostly in her perspective, but I also liked that we got other perspectives through the flashbacks. I was definitely kept guessing through out the story, which was good. The ending caught me off guard, but in a good way. In hindsight, there were definitely clues to it.
2. Hunting Adeline by HD Carlton
Rating: 2 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: I really didn’t enjoy this book. I felt that it was really poorly written, and I just didn’t love the way it all came together. Addie and Zade are kind of the worst to be honest, so it’s for the best that they ended up together. I just didn’t enjoy this.
3. Electric Idol by Katee Robert
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: This was an interesting alternate universe version of Greel mythology. IT was an interesting version of the myth of Eros and Psyche. I love the world that the author has built. I also liked the development of both Eros and Psyche. It’s going to be interesting to see how the world continues to grow and develop. I’m looking forward to more.
4. Out of the Blue by Jason June
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: This was a super sweet young adult romance. The two main characters wer really interesting and I really liked their dynamic together. The additions of mermaids and their lore to the story was really sweet and unique. I also really enjoyed the way this story played with romance and rom-com tropes. It was fun to see them spun around.
5. Sign Here by Claudia Lux
Rating: 5 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: This was so great. I loved the unique premise of this novel. I thought Peyote was a really interesting character, and I really found his motivation compelling. I liked the additional layers of how exactly he was trying to get back to Earth interesting. I also really enjoyed getting the perspective of the Harrison family. There were so many really cool layers to this story. I enjoyed how cyclical it was. It all came together.
6. Delicious Monsters by Liselle Samberry
Rating: 5 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: This was a really interesting horror book. It had a bit of a slow start, but I very quickly had a hard time putting it down. Brittany and Daisy were both really interesting characters. The horror elements were very creepy and definitely yucky. I loved how the two storylines came together.
7. Half-Minute Horrors by Various Authors
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: This was a really interesting collection of short stories. I liked the diverse range of authors that were included. I also really liked all the different formats of stories. Some were really creative and unique. It was a quick read, which is great. The stories all had different vibes while aiming at scariness, which was fun.
8. The Changeling King by Ethan M. Aldridge
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: This was a great addition ot the series. I liked seeing our two protagonists adjust to their new lives and learn to navigate their new worlds. The art style is really cool. I liked revisiting the world. I definitely want more of this series if it exists.
9. Delicates by Brenna Thummler
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: I really enjoyed this continuation. Friendship is a complicated topic for teens and I really felt for Marjorie as she navigate that. I liked the new character that was introduced as well. I really really enjoy the ghosts in this story. They are very interesting as an additional element.
10. Paradise Lost by John Milton
Rating: 3 Stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: This was pretty interesting but not really my favourite. I’m glad that I read it though so that I can say that I read it.
11. A Chill Rain in January by LR Wright
Rating: 3 Stars
Format: eBook
Review: It’s interesting how the author switches up her formats. She spent so much time building character this time before introducting the murder, which really ended up making the murderer more empathetic on the whole. However, it’s still not my favourite.
12. Ana Maria and the Fox by Liana de la Rosa
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: I liked the premise of this novel, and it was also cool to read a regency romance that was diverse. I liked Ana Maria and Gideon as characters a lot. However, I did wish that certain aspects of the conflict were further developed and that the conflict had been expanded upon more. I also really wanted to know what was in the letter from her father.
13. Striking Distance by Sarah Rees Brennan
Rating: 3 Stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: This was interesting because I didn’t know much about fencing and I also enjoyed the boarding school vibes. However, I just hated the miscommunication. I don’t think this is a series that I will be continuing with.
14. The No-Girlfriend Rule by Christen Randall
Rating: 5 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: I loved this book. I really enjoyed all the nods to Dungeons and Dragons. It was also a great representation of anxiety, and the other mental health aspects were handled with care. I liked the way that Hollis grew and learned about herself. She was a really interesting character. I liked watching her grow. The romance was adorable.
15. Accountable by Dashka Slater
Rating: 5 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: This was a deeply compelling read. I found it very interesting to see what happened and the consequences for it. It was crazy to see how it was like a rock rolling down the hill and how everything just built up momentum. It was so well-written about and the topic was handled with sensitivity. I really liked the way the story was written.
16. Annie Bot by Sierra Greet
Rating: 5 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: This was a compelling read for me. Annie was such an interesting character, and it was hard to read about the way she was treated through out the book. I could not put this down because I just really wanted to know how everything was going to play out. The topic of relationships was handled in an interesting way, and I appreciate how it was written about.
17. Korgi: The Complete Tale by Christian Slade
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: eBook
Review: **Disclaimer: I recieved a free eARC of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was so cute. It was really interesting how the only words in the story introduced the section for you, but then the actual story was just art and you had to pick up what was happening based on the images that were included. I liked the world that was built, and how the corgis were incorporated into the story. It was all very, very cute.
18. Castle Swimmer: Volume 1 by Wendy Martin
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: eBook

This was so cute. I really enjoyed the world that the author created. She id a good job at developing the main characters and the concept of the various prophecies. However, I didn’t want it to end. I wanted it to continue forever. The art was beautiful, and I liked seeing all the different species of mer. It was really cool. I can’t wait for the next one.
19. Dark Spaces: Dungeon by Scott Snyder
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: eBook

This was a really twisty and dark story, but I loved it. I found it really compelling to watch them try to catch this serial killer, and to solve the mystery of who he was. I liked the main investigator character. The art was well done, though not my favourite that I’ve seen recently. That being said, it was definitely well-suited to the story that was being told. I loved how it all came together.
