October wasn’t my best reading month. I enjoyed a lot of what I read, but I wanted to read more spooky books. It just didn’t seem to work out for me too well. I also got a good collection of really exciting books in this month. I’ve already read a few and I’m really excited about them.
Books hauled in October:
- As Good as Dead by Holly Jackson
- Lakesedge by Lyndall Clipstone
- The Lake by Natasha Preston
- This is Not a Ghost Story by Andrea Portes
- Dark and Shallow Lies by Ginny Myers Sain
- Jade Fire Gold by June C.L. Tan
- Once Upon a Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber
- Bad Girls Never Day Die by Jennifer Mathieu
Books I read in October:
1. Geek Love by Katherine Dunn
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: This was a re-read for me, and it was still such a strange and engaging book. It’s one of those books that’s so weird it’s almost impossible to look away from it. I found Oly a really interesting character, but I didn’t necessarily agree with her motivations. Overall, it’s a really strange story but I had a fun time reading it.
2. Aru Shah and the End of Time by Roshani Chokshi
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: I had so much fun listening to this audiobook. Aru isn’t necessarily a character I would have related to as a pre-teen, but I did really understand where she was coming from when it came to what was going on and how they got into the mess. I found the story compelling, and I enjoyed the moments of humour throughout.
3. As Good as Dead by Holly Jackson
Rating: 5 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: This was an excellent conclusion to the series. It was dark and deeply engaging. I found myself completely blindsided by the direction it went and how twisted it got. I could not recommend this series more.
4. Scooby Doo Apocalypse, vol 4 by Keith Giffen
Rating: 3 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: This was interesting, but I found myself skipping over parts. I won’t be finishing the series because my library doesn’t have the next part and I don’t feel like chasing it down myself.
5. Monstress, vol 6 by Marjorie M. Liu
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: This was a great continuation of the series. I like the characters a lot, and I really enjoyed seeing how the story progressed. I liked seeing the main girl interact with her friend from the beginning now that she knows who she really is. It’s definitely a fascinating series.
6. A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: I don’t really have anything new to say about this, but I had fun reading it.
7. Red Rising by Pierce Brown
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: This was a re-read for me, but I really enjoyed it. It’s a really interesting world, and I really like Darrow as a character. The crew he gathers around him is an interesting collection of characters. I’m excited to continue on with the series.
8. White Smoke by Tiffany D. Jackson
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: This was a compelling story. I really liked the basic premise of it, and while it was slow to build, you could definitely feel the tension throughout the story. I found myself needing to know what was going to happen next, and I was definitely satisfied with the conclusion.
9. Fever Code by James Dashner
Rating: 3 Stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: I’ve had this prequel on my shelf for a really long time, and I’m glad I finally read it. However, it’s not necessarily anything special. It just was kind of interesting if you’re a big fan of the series, which I’m not anymore.
10. Hamlet by William Shakespeare
Rating: 5 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: I still love Hamlet and have a lot of fun reading it with my classes.
11. From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Rating: 5 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: This book was so much fun. It’s not exactly the best written book that I’ve ever read, as there’s something about the dialogue that really throws me off at times. However, I really enjoyed the storyline and the tension between Hawke and Poppy. I’m excited to continue buddy reading the series with Kari.
12. This is Not a Ghost Story by Andrea Portes
Rating: 5 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: This was such a strange and compelling book. I loved the eerie tension that it built up and how many questions I had throughout it. I found myself needing to finish it in one sitting simply because I wanted to know how it was going to play out. I was very satisfied with the story.
13. Such a Pretty Smile by Kristi DeMeester
Rating: 5 Stars
Format: eBook
Review: There will be a full review of this on the blog closer to its publication date.
14. Beast Boy Loves Raven by Kami Garcia
Rating: 5 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: This graphic novel is so cute. I love the art and I loved the story. I like how it’s working towards building up the Teen Titans. I cannot wait for the next one.
15. Aru Shah and the Song of Death by Roshani Chokshi
Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: This was a great continuation. I liked the new characters that were introduced and the themes of there being more than one side to a story. It was really compelling, and I’m really excited to read the next one in the series.
16. Lakesedge by Lyndall Clipstone
Rating: 5 Stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: This story was really intriguing. It had a really good premise and some really neat world building. I loved the romance that developed between Violeta and Rowan, and I am excited to read the second one when it comes out. The magic system was really cool.
And that’s everything I read and hauled in October. What did you read?
