I have mixed feelings about New Years Resolutions but I always seem to set them anyways. I don’t always have the best follow through, but I try to set some basic goals that I want to try and keep up. I set a lot of resolutions this past year, and I’m curious to see how I did with them before I set next years.
1. Be happy
This was definitely a very happy year. I got to spend a lot of time with my awesome boyfriend, which made the year very special. I got to work with some really great friends and also teach some really great kids. I can’t say that every moment was perfect but it was on the whole a really great year.
2. Travel
I didn’t really travel a lot this year. I went to Whistler for the first time, which was really nice. I also visited my very best friend in Tennessee. I had a great time with her and meeting her baby. I also visited family in Victoria and Edmonton over the course of the year. None were particularly exotic places to visit but I enjoyed going to them.
3. Eat healthier
I wasn’t as successful at this goal. This is something I always try to do, but it doesn’t always work out for me. Salad just isn’t that tasty sometimes.
4. Be open to new opportunities
I did try to do a new thing or two this year. I perhaps didn’t put myself out there as much as I might have liked in hindsight but I’m definitely going to continue on with this one.
5. Finish Reaper
I have to admit that I just didn’t do this. I will have to try and work on it next year instead.
6. Exercise more
Yea, I struggled at this one. I did work out some but on the whole I fell off the bandwagon of this.
7. Spend time with people who make you happy
I spent a lot of time this year with people who make me happy. In fact I spent probably most of my free time with other people with people who make me happy.
8. Be more productive
I struggle with procrastination and that didn’t really change this year.
9. Work on my novels
Essentially here you can see what I wrote about Reaper. I didn’t really work on my novels at all.
10. Grow as a writer
It’s surprising in hindsight how many of my resolutions were about writing. I feel like in some ways I did, but others I did not.
11. Grow as a teacher
I always try to improve, but there is always room to do better and more.
12. Do more of what makes you happy
I will definitely say I felt like I did this. It’s hard to think of specifics but I feel good about the way everything played out this year.
13. Appreciate the little things.
This is a hard thing to do, and I wish I had done more of it. I’m planning on getting back into bullet journaling next year and I think that will help.
14. Be more accepting of yourself
I’m trying to do this, and I was a lot better at it this year. There’s still a long way to go, but loving myself is very important.
What resolutions did you set this past year? How did you do?
