When I turned 27 at the end of 2018, I wrote a post featuring 27 books I wanted to read. That post can be found here. On my half-birthday, I did an update, which you can find here. This is my final update, because tomorrow I turn 28 and my 27th year has come to and end. So let’s see how I did. Which of the books that I hadn’t yet read at 27 and a half, have I now read? You’ll find out below the cut.
1. Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare
Have I read it? Yes
Thoughts: I can’t believe I put this book off for so long! It was such a good conclusion to the series to the point where I absolutely need more books spinning off from that epilogue! I think I would have enjoyed it even more if I had read it closer to when it came out. 😛
2. Finale by Stephanie Garber
Have I read it? Yes
Thoughts: I always have regret about putting off books when I finally get around to reading them and Finale was definitely the case with that! I really enjoyed the story and it was a really nice conclusion to the series!
3. More Shakespeare
Have I read it? Sort of…
Thoughts: Like at the 6 month update, I’ve read some plays but not a whole lot. Most of the ones I read were ones that I was teaching to my students which doesn’t always fully count as I’ve already read those ones several times.
4. Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han
Have I read it? No
Thoughts: I will definitely be getting to this soon! I have a hold on the audiobook through my library and I’m pretty close to the front of the line. It might come up before this post does, but I don’t think I’ll finish it before this post gets posted.
5. The Towering Sky by Katharine McGee
Have I read it? Yes
Thoughts: I loved this book! It was a super fun conclusion to the series, and I love the drama of it all. It’s total book junk food in the best way possible.
6. To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo
Have I read it? No
Thoughts: I have heard so many good things about this book so it’s sad that I haven’t gotten to it yet. I know that I will get there eventually. Maybe 28 will be my year for that!
7. Roar by Cora Carmack
Have I read it? No
Thoughts: I feel like I should have picked this up already because it’s something that definitely interests me, but I procrastinated on it for too long. Roar‘s time will come.
8. The Price Guide to the Occult by Leslye Walton
Have I read it? No
Thoughts: I didn’t get a chance to read this one yet, but I will. I’m even more interested because the OwlCrate guide to Winterwood suggested it as similar if you liked Winterwood.
9. Miss Mayhem by Rachel Hawkins
Have I read it? No
Thoughts: I want to read more sequels before the end of the school year, so I think I’ll try before the end of 2019, but I haven’t gotten there yet.
10. Lethal White by Robert Galbraith
Have I read it? Yes
Thoughts: I wasn’t as big of a fan of this one as I was of Career of Evil. That being said I still really liked the book. I enjoyed Robin and Cormoran’s dynamic and I’m definitely going to keep going with this series.
11. The Kiss of Deception by Mary Pearson
Have I read it? Yes
Thoughts: This was an interesting book. It drove me a little insane that the author kept it vague as to who was the prince and who was the assassin, but I liked it a lot. I think I’ll continue with the series but it will probably take me forever to get there.
12. Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton
Have I read it? No
Thoughts: I do want to read this! It’s something that intrigues me, but I didn’t get to it this year. However, I did watch the second movie so that’s great!
13. Harry Potter: A History of Magic by British Library
Have I read it? No
Thoughts: I’m so weak for everything Harry Potter but I have definitely had a hard time finding myself motivated to pick up this even though it’s graced my shelf for quite some time. I will get to it soon!
My final total is 19/27. It’s not a perfect record which is too bad, but I’m definitely going to try to do better in my 28th year. What books should I read? Let me know in the comments, and see the post tomorrow to check out what I’m planning on reading!
