I had a rather interesting reading month this month! I thought I was having a bad one where I hadn’t read very many books, but I ended up reading 16, which is pretty good in my opinion. I also read my longest book of the year this month, and did okay at catching up on some series that I had been procrastinating on. Find out what I read below the cut!
1. When Paris Was Dark by YM Masson
Rating: 3 stars
Format: Physical Book
Review: I have a full review of this up on the blog. You can find the link here.
2. China Rich Girlfriend by Kevin Kwan
Rating: 4 stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: This was a really good sequel. I didn’t like it quite as much as the first one, but I was really glad that Rachel found out who her father was and met him. I liked the drama of it, and some of the new additions to the cast of characters was really fascinating.
3. Someday by Drew Hayden Taylor
Rating: 4 stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: This was a re-read with my students. I like it, and I think the kids liked it too.
4. The Towering Sky by Katharine McGee
Rating: 5 stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: This was the first conclusion to a series I got to this month. I loved it. I don’t know why I put it off, because it was a really good conclusion to the series. This isn’t a super serious read, but I love the drama and junk food-ness of it. I got really attached to all the characters and I’m glad that they got a good ending. I don’t think this series is for everyone, but I’m a fan.
5. The Realms of the Gods by Tamora Pierce
Rating: 5 stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: This is yet another re-read, but I genuinely love this series and this book. The audiobooks for this series are full cast and narrated by Tamora Pierce, and I genuinely love them. They’re super well done and all the voices are perfect. I know that some people don’t super love the ship that happens in this book, but I have a nostalgic fondness for it.
6. First Test by Tamora Pierce
Rating: 5 stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: Kel is one of my favourite book characters because she’s so unique and sensitive. I am really enjoying my reread of the Tortall books. I liked the audiobook, though it wasn’t as exciting as the Wild Magic series because it wasn’t full cast. However, I still loved the story.
7. Rich People Problems by Kevin Kwan
Rating: 5 stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: I really enjoyed the conclusion to this series. I think the first one is still my favourite because Rachel is my favourite and she wasn’t in this one as much. However, I really enjoyed the way this story came together and the way it concluded. If you have been procrastinating on this series, you should totally pick it up!
8. Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare
Rating: 5 stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: Man, I don’t know why it took me so long to pick up this book! It was so good. I have to admit that I did forget quite a bit about what had happened in the previous novel, but I really enjoyed the way the story came together. The conclusion of the epilogue also killed me! I need more books in this world!!
9. New Moon by Stephenie Meyer
Rating: 2 stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: I still really dislike the way Bella behaved in this book, but there is a slight nostalgia for this series. I feel like these are the first books I read that taught me of the love triangle trope, which I am definitely fond of in a weird way (as long as it’s done well).
10. Blood on the Beach by Robin Stevenson and Sarah N. Harvey
Rating: 3 stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: This book took me awhile to read because I was reading it during silent reading at school. I was interested because one of the authors came to my school to talk to students, and the premise was interesting. I was intrigued but the writing wasn’t the best. I also liked that it did mention where I live but it didn’t seem like the author fully understand where I live, though that’s a super minor comment.
11. The Fall of the Butterflies by Andrea Portes
Rating: 2 stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: I didn’t really like this book. It had a good resolution and the message was good, but the story just didn’t really vibe with me.
12. Winterwood by Shea Ernshaw
Rating: 5 stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: I was so so excited for this book! I had to pick it up pretty quickly despite not initially putting it on my TBR. It took me a bit to get into it, but once I was in I was in. It’s a perfect winter read and wonderfully atmospheric. I highly recommend it.
13. Just What Kind of Mother Are You? by Paula Daly
Rating: 4 stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: This was a really interesting thriller. I hadn’t heard of it or the author before, but I’m glad I picked it up. I was super stressed out while reading it, but the main character was super relatable and I totally felt for her.
14. Finale by Stephanie Garber
Rating: 5 stars
Format: Physical Copy
Review: I really enjoyed this one. Again it was another series conclusion that I had put off for a really long time, but I’m so glad I read it. It was really interesting and I devoured it! I finished it in just a couple of sittings.
15. Lair of Dreams by Libba Bray
Rating: 5 stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: This was a reread for me, but it was my first time listening to the audiobook. I definitely enjoyed it, and I’m really excited to read the next book in the series. It’s such a spooky book and I love it so much.
16. Page by Tamora Pierce
Rating: 5 stars
Format: Audiobook
Review: This was another reread and I loved revisiting it. I love Kel.
