Tag Tuesday | Chess and Book Tag

08.27.2019 by Ashley // Leave a Comment

36BCD728-D7E1-46CB-AA5F-BAE27BB3693FChess has never been my favourite game, as I lack the strategy and planning skills for it.  However, this is a pretty cool tag.  Some of the questions feel pretty unique to me.

Pawn: Favourite character development

  • Is it a cliche to say that Harry Potter is one of my favourite character developments? We get a full seven books watching him grow up and develop as a person.  He goes from a child to an adult, and we have to watch more and more difficult things thrust onto his shoulders for him to deal with.  He’s not my favourite character in the Harry Potter world, but you have to give it to him that he really does grow over his story.

Knight: Favourite warrior

  • Alanna the Lioness from the Song of the Lioness series by Tamora Pierce.  These books were super formative for me and Alanna is total warrior goals.  She works incredibly hard to become a knight, including disguising her female identity for years so that she can get what she wants.  Then we see what she can achieve as a warrior after she attains her knighthood.  Additionally, one of the wonderful things about the Tortall verse is that even when we move on to a new protagonist, we still see other characters we previously loved and so we get to see Alanna again and again.

Rook: Favourite fictional world

  • This has to be a tie between Tortall and Hogwarts.  I desperately want to go to Hogwarts and to experience a piece of the magic.  However, I also love Tortall.  Both of those collections of books were some of my favourites and I grew up with them.  I’d probably rather visit Hogwarts, but I do love the depth of the world of Tortall.

Bishop: Plot twist or trope you hate

  • I’m not super keen on love triangles.  I like when they’re done well but so many of them are poorly written and it’s so overdone that it can be really boring.

Queen: Favourite female royalty

  • Aelin from the Throne of Glass series has to be my answer for this.  I loved watching her develop over the course of the books.  She’s such a brat but she’s the best kind of a brat.  She’s an excellent character.

King: Favourite male royalty

  • Nikolai Lantsov from the Grishaverse is my favourite male royalty.  I love Nikolai so much.  He’s very much not your traditional royal and I really like that.  He’s dapper and dashing and gets into a lot of trouble.  He’s definitely a standout character from that world.

What do you think? What are your answers to these questions? Let me know in the comments below.
