Ace of Shades
Ace of Shades was advertised to me as one thing, and then it turned out that the thing it was advertised was a super tiny part of the book. I was really, really looking forward to the scenario described in the synopsis, the shadow game, and it was barely a part of the whole story. That being said, I still really enjoyed the book, but I just felt like it wasn’t completely what it was advertised and that was disappointing to me.
Zoo
I watched the television adaptation of this show before reading the book, and the show just blew this book out of the water. I know we say the book is always better, but that’s just not the case for me and I’m starting to feel like maybe James Patterson just isn’t going to be my cup of tea. Oh well!
The Young Elites
I wanted to give Marie Lu a try. I had never read anything by her and needed a book about secret societies for a readathon prompt I was doing. The Young Elites applied to the prompt, and so I thought it would be worth a shot. The plot was intriguing and the start was really interesting, but I struggled all the way through because I just hated the main character, Adelina, so much. I think that is supposed to be the point, but I just couldn’t get into it.
Sea Breeze Academy
This book gave me serious Zoey 101 vibes with a really original twist. I loved the idea, but I think I set myself up too much with the hype about it being at all like Zoey 101. I loved that show when I was younger and was so choked when it was cancelled, and the comparisons did the book a disservice and left me disappointed. I fully admit to doing this to myself.
The Crimes of Grindelwald
I was so, so excited for the movie. I preordered the screenplay, and I was just so hyped. I went in, having heard mixed things but I tried to keep my mind open. However, there were just so many things that disappointed me.When the screenplay arrived, I read it pretty quickly because I wanted to do that with the movie fresh in my mind. I was hoping that it would improve some of the things I didn’t like, and it did in a few places, but on the whole I was just so sad about how disappointing this was. That ending??? Why JKR?
The Last Battle
I didn’t read The Chronicles of Narnia until this year because I didn’t get a copy of the book until Christmas 2017. I read the whole of the series over the course of the year, most of which in the month of December to start 2019 on a fresh slate, and I was curious to see how it all ended. And OH MY GOD, I hated it so much. Seven books of build up and that was how it all finished?? I don’t want to spoil it, but if you know what I am talking about, please reach out so I can have someone to rant to. I was blindsided by the twist, and I was so so disappointed.
