two friends and too many books
I can’t believe the year is over halfway over already. Time seems to fly so much faster as you get older, and I’m not really sure how that works. It doesn’t seem particularly fair to me. However, I thought it would be fun to do this book tag. I’ve seen it circulating on BookTube, and I thought I would maybe do it, but I cemented that idea when I saw people on bookstagram doing it. So below the cut you will find my answers to the Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag.
Summer vacation is here! I love teaching, but by the time June rolls around, I’m always really ready for summer and spending some time relaxing and perhaps going on vacation. I’m hoping for a nice mix of work and play this summer as I prep for the next school year and hopefully also catch up on my sleep and the books I’ve been putting off. So in honour of summer vacation, let’s talk about my top five bookish vacations!
A few years ago, I started a 52 week writing challenge. I fell out of it after a few weeks but I really liked the stories I wrote for it and I wanted to share them here on the blog. I also thought it might be fun to continue on with the challenge here even though it’s a weird time of the year to continue a 52 week reading challenge.
The first prompt was for the first week of January and the prompt was ‘A New Beginning.” You will find the story below the cut.
Everyone needs friends, and I am no exception. It’s not a department that I’ve always been really rich in in my life, but right now I am lucky to have some wonderful friends. They are beacons in my life, and I’m so glad to know them. Another beacon in my life is books. Books are something that have always been in my life, and it’s easy to draw parallels between them and the important friends someone has in their life.

The Art of Taxidermy by Sharon Kernot is a young adult novel in verse. It falls into the genre of historical fiction as it takes place in Australia is a time period that follows World War II. This book comes out on August 23rd, 2019. I gave it 4 stars on GoodReads.
I can’t believe another month has come and gone and that here I am doing another TBR post. School is officially out and I officially have a bit more free time than I did before. I’m looking forward to getting in some relaxation and lots of reading.
June is always a crazy month in the life of a teacher. You’re exhausted and ready for summer, and so are the kids. Then it becomes time for report cards and you go a little crazy trying to get all the marks in so you can finalize the grades, and then you have to write comments. To top all of that off, I also came down with a cold in June, so it probably wasn’t my best reading month ever. That being said, I still read a fair few things and I really enjoyed a lot of them! I felt like I kept my book buying to a minimum in June. I hauled six books, which is maybe not super reasonable in terms of shelf space but in comparison to some past months where I went a little crazy with my purchases, I felt pretty good about this one. One was a preorder, one was from an order last month, one was from Owl Crate, and then three were from my trip to the bookstore with my boyfriend this month. I’ve also already read two of these! 🙂 Without further ado, let’s jump into the list of books I hauled in June.
One of my all time favourite shows from this past year is The Haunting of Hill House, the Netflix original series based on the novel by the same name by Shirley Jackson.
