***Disclaimer: I received a free early access copy of The Foxglove King by Hannah Whitten from Orbit Books for review purposes. Thank you so much for opportunity.
I had seen the hype for this book all over bookstagram and when I emailed Orbit, they got back to me saying that if they had any review copies left they’d send me one. I was so lucky that one came in the mail but not a few days later! It was one of my most exciting book mail moments. So thank you once again so much to Orbit Books for making this reviewer so happy with this great story.
First of all, wow, this book was definitely a ride! I really love Hannah’s writing. It definitely fits the mood of the book and sets the scene up as dark fantasy. Sometimes when authors write fantasy, they still write with a ‘modern’ feel, but this didn’t feel like that. I also enjoyed her pacing. While there were some twists and turns, some of them I could predict a little bit, but overall they still went a different way in the end.
Lore was such a great character, all of them were. I liked how all of them were definitely a moral grey: Gabriel, who stuck to his beliefs even down to the end; Bastian, whom I did not expect that ending with him; Lore, who was never a hero and never tried to be one.
The story was dark and decadent and everything I’ve ever wanted honestly. I’m very excited for the sequel!
I rated this one 5 stars.
