Ashley’s October TBR

10.01.2019 by Ashley // Leave a Comment

October is here! I can’t believe we’re already here.  This year has gone so quickly.  I have to admit that I’m really excited about October.  I’m not as obsessed as some people, but I really do find myself enjoying the spooky vibes that come along with the month.  I love Halloween, and scary movies, so I’m definitely going to take some time to enjoy myself this month.  That being said I am hoping to pick up some spooky reads this month.  My reading plans are below the cut.

  • House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig

I didn’t get to this book in September because life got pretty hectic, but I really want to get to it this month.  My friend tells me it has spooky vibes, which I think will make it a perfect October read.

  • The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell

This is one of my NetGalley reads, and it publishes in October, so I need to get to it ASAP.  It’s also a thriller, so I’m really excited to get into it and find out what the deal is.  I haven’t read anything by Lisa Jewell yet, but I’ve heard good things so I feel optimistic about it.

  • No Exit by Taylor Adams

This book sounds so creepy and spooky.  I got a copy for my mom, and she’s lent it to me so I can read it.  I’ve heard good things, and I’m really intrigued.  I think it’ll be super creepy to get through and I’m really looking forward to it.

  • Perfume by Patrick Suskind

This would be a re-read for me.  I read it in university for a course I took. I loved it.  It was disturbing and creepy, and I think I’d really like to revisit it.  I hope to enjoy it just as much as I did the first time around.

There are a couple of other things I’m hoping to get through:

  • When Paris Was Dark by Y.M. Masson

I started this book in September, and while it’s not really spooky, it is about Paris during World War II and historical fiction is always good for the fall.  I plan to write a review of this one when I finally get to finishing it.

  • Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff

I also started this one in September.  Kari and I were supposed to buddy read it, but our lives got super crazy, so I ended up plunging on ahead on my own.  That being said, I’m really not all that far into it.  I’m enjoying what I’ve read so far, and I’m sure I’ll like the rest.

  • Hamlet by William Shakespeare

This is the play I’m reading with my English 12 class. I’m always love it, but I’d like to finish it up well before the end of the month.

  • Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare

I’m reading this with one of my English 9 classes.  It is what it is, but I have to admit I’m really fond of R+J.  I’m hoping to get it done this month as well.

  • The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

With my other English 9 class, I am reading The Hunger Games. I expect that this is probably going to take us a bit longer than Romeo and Juliet will with my other class, but I still hope to get it done in October.

  • Medicine Walk by Richard Wagamese

With my EFP 11 class, we are moving into a lit circle unit and Medicine Walk is the last of the books that I haven’t read.  I am most of the way through it, so I think I should be able to finish it pretty quickly.

  • A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab

This has been started for a few months now, and I have been meaning to pick it up for a really long time.  I just haven’t felt the motivation, but it would be really great if I could clear out some of my in progress reads on Goodreads.

  • Another play by William Shakespeare

I have been doing pretty poorly on my mission to read all of Shakespeare’s plays, so it would be great if I could get to another of his plays this month outside of the ones that I’m reading with my classes.

That is everything that I’m hoping to read in October.  What’s on your spooky TBR? Let me know in the comments down below.
