Misc Monday | 6 Month 27 Books in My 27th Year Update

06.03.2019 by Ashley // Leave a Comment

Today is my half-birthday!  I am officially 27.5 years old, and in honour of this I want to take you back to a post I made on my 27th birthday: 27 Books to Read in My 27th Year.  In that post I wrote about 27 books that I wanted to read before my next birthday.  Since half a year has passed, I thought it might be fun to check back in and see where I am at in this special TBR of mine.

hrh

1. Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J Maas

Have I read it? Yes

Thoughts: I loved this book.  It wasn’t maybe as high stakes in the end as I might have liked, but on the whole it was a very enjoyable conclusion to a series I absolutely love!

2. Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare

Have I read it? No

Thoughts: I really want to finish this series, but I find myself daunted by the size and also worrying for all my faves.

3. Finale by Stephanie Garber

Have I read it? No

Thoughts: I just got it in the mail recently, and I really just haven’t had the chance to pick it up yet.  I’ve heard such good things though!

4. More Shakespeare

Have I read it? Sort of

Thoughts: I have read a couple of plays this year, but on the whole I’m not doing so well with this particular resolution.

5. The Wicked King by Holly Black

Have I read it? Yes

Thoughts: This book was definitely way better than the first.  Cardan is still the worst, but I love Jude and will support her to the end of the earth and back.  That girl deserves the world.

6. Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han

Have I read it? No

Thoughts: I should really pick it up though.  I’ve definitely been in the mood for cute contemporaries.

7. Turtles All the Way Down by John Green

Have I read it? Yes

Thoughts: This book gave me all the feels.  I felt like the depiction of the main character’s anxiety and other mental health issues was very good and I really, really empathised with her.

8. Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth

Have I read it? Yes

Thoughts: This book was not as bad as I thought it was going to be.  It’s still not my favourite read ever, but I had fun while reading it.  Not sure I will continue with the series, however.

9. The Towering Sky by Katharine McGee

Have I read it? No

Thoughts: This will be a perfect summer read.  Or really, I’ll get to it when I get to it.  I know I’ll have fun reading it.   I can’t wait.

10. An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

Have I read it? Yes

Thoughts: I listened to the audiobook of this one and it caused me a lot of stress.  For awhile I wasn’t sure if I would continue on with the series, but I think I’m going to have to seek it out and try and finish it.

11. To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo

Have I read it? No

Thoughts: I meant to read it in May, but then I threw my May TBR out the window and read whatever the heck I wanted instead.

12. Scythe by Neal Shusterman

Have I read it? Yes

Thoughts: This book is SO GOOD.  You have to read it.  The world building is superb and the characters were amazing.

13. Three Sides of a Heart

Have I read it? Yes

Thoughts: I had so much fun with this collection of short stories.  I read it in February and it was the perfect little romantic escape.

14. Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young

Have I read it? Yes

Thoughts: This was a fun read.  Not my all time favourite, but I really enjoyed it.  I also like that it’s a stand alone, because there is something to be said about a really good stand alone.

15. Roar by Cora Carmack

Have I read it? No

Thoughts: I’ll get to it eventually. I promise.

16. The Power by Naomi Alderman

Have I read it? Yes

Thoughts: This was such a thinker book.  It totally blew my mind and I quite enjoyed reading it.

17. The Price Guide to the Occult by Leslye Walton

Have I read it? No

Thoughts: I always kind of forget this is on my shelf. Whoops.

18. Nevernight by Jay Kristoff

Have I read it? No

Thoughts: Yes, I haven’t read it yet, but now I actually own it so it’s more likely that I will pick it up.  Eventually.

19. Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor

Have I read it? Yes

Thoughts: This is another sequel that I thought was better than the first.  I just felt like I had a better grasp on the world, and then I absolutely loved the depth that Laini Taylor added to it.

20. Miss Mayhem by Rachel Hawkins

Have I read it? No

Thoughts: Apparently I have too many books on my TBR.  Should I do a month where I try to finish some series off??

21. Her Royal Highness by Rachel Hawkins

Have I read it? Yes

Thoughts: This book is the cutest thing ever.  I loved the love story, and the characters, and the cover, and just everything about it.

22. Lethal White by Robert Galbraith

Have I read it? No

Thoughts: Again, the size daunts me here.  However, I love the Cormoran Strike books so it’s definitely a high priority one to try and get to.

23. King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo

Have I read it? Yes

Thoughts: It was so fun to revisit the world of the Grishaverse.  Certain twists made me cringe, but I loved the characters so much that it was totally worth it to me.

24. The Kiss of Deception by Mary Pearson

Have I read it? No

Thoughts: People keep telling me to read it, and I keep procrastinating.

25. Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton

Have I read it? No

Thoughts: I actually forgot this was on my TBR.

26. The Heart Forger by Rin Chupeco

Have I read it? Yes

Thoughts: Kari and I buddy read this one earlier in the year.  Again, I liked it more than the first book.  It was a bit more action packed and I had a better understanding of the world.  Can’t wait to read the series conclusion when it comes out in paperback.

27. Harry Potter: A History of Magic by British Library

Have I read it? No

Thoughts: I haven’t really been feeling non fiction lately.

So, in total, I have read 13/27 books on this TBR I set for myself.  That is not a great score.  I’m really going to have to pick it up in the next six months if I want to check all of these off.

Which ones should I prioritise? Let me know in the comments!
